OUR STORY

Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was founded in 2001 by a group of local residents to promote the best interests of pets in the community. It is a federally recognized, non-profit organization, funded primarily by private donations and memberships. The organization is governed by a nine member board of directors who provide support via fundraising. Daily operations are overseen by Interim Executive Director StaceyLynn Clark Cureton, Assistant Shelter Manager CaSandra Nash, and Animal Care Assistant Emily McPhetres. Additional support is provided by volunteers and foster families.

-2019 HARK was the recipient of grant money from the Rasmuson Foundation, the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation, and ASPCA Northern Tier Initiative to expand and improve the shelter.

-2023 HARK was again the recipient of grant money from the ASPCA Northern Tier Initiative to bolster our foster care program, in conjunction with the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation, and to train community first aid volunteers.

-2023/2024 HARK was again the recipient of grant money from the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation for a brand new snowblower to aid in snow removal of our outdoor areas for our shelter animals to play and exercise in.

-2024/2025 HARK was again the recipient of grant money from the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation for aid in low-income assistance with our spring 2025 spay/neuter clinic

HARK thanks the ASPCA and CVCF for their continued generous support.

OUR MISSION

The Haines Animal Rescue Kennel is a non-profit corporation dedicated to finding appropriate homes for all animals in need, assisting in the search for low-cost spay/neuter services and educating the public on responsible pet care. It is our goal to provide shelter and care for animals while they await permanent adoptions, to assist in accessing remote veterinary care, the use of our grooming facilities, and to offer educational opportunities that further the welfare of pets and animals in our community.
